I was so surprised when my entire family showed interest in attending a lecture on native plants. It is not easy to convince teenage boys to do anything, let alone something that interests a parent. So we all headed to the Doug Tallemy lecture in Warrantor, VA.
He had us all engaged for a full hour. For anyone who has seen or heard Tallemy speak, he really draws you in with the story of the Chickadee who needs 300+ caterpillars to raise a clutch of young. This delightful little bird truly makes one want to plant a landscape which can support their species.
Personally I left the lecture hall with a renewed energy to support the flora and fauna of our region.
